Instructions
Making The Cake
Preheat oven to 350°F and grease two 9-inch round cake pans. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Slowly add the boiling water to the batter and mix until combined. Divide the batter between the prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pans and cooling completely on a wire rack.
Making The Pudding
In a medium saucepan, whisk together the milk, cornstarch, sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla. Heat the mixture over medium heat, whisking constantly, until it is thick and bubbling. Remove from the heat and allow to cool completely.
Making The Frosting
In a large bowl, beat together the butter, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk. Beat until light and fluffy.
Assembling The Cake
Place one of the cooled cakes on a serving plate. Spread the cooled pudding over the top of the cake. Place the second cake over the top. Spread the frosting over the top and sides of the cake.
Making The Ganache
In a small saucepan, heat the cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from the heat and add the chocolate chips. Stir until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth. Allow to cool for 5 minutes.
Finishing The Cake
Pour the cooled ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drizzle down the sides. Allow the ganache to set before serving.
