Ingredients

To make this cake you will need: 2 cups (260 grams) all-purpose flour, 2 cups (400 grams) granulated white sugar, 3/4 cup (85 grams) unsweetened cocoa powder, 2 teaspoons baking soda, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 cup (240 ml) buttermilk, 1/2 cup (120 ml) vegetable oil, 2 large eggs, 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract, 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water.
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9 x 2 inch (23 x 5 cm) round cake pans. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center and add the buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed just until blended. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula. With the mixer on low speed, slowly add the boiling water and beat until blended. In a large bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually beat in the confectioners sugar, 1 cup at a time. Beat in the milk and vanilla extract until the frosting is light and fluffy. Spread the frosting over the cooled cake layers and stack them on top of each other.
