1 cup hot coffee

1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

Cake

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, buttermilk, oil and vanilla. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Slowly stir in the hot coffee until the batter is nice and smooth. Stir in the melted chocolate. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool completely before frosting.

Frosting

In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the butter until light and fluffy. Add the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, heavy cream and vanilla extract. Beat on low speed until combined, then increase the speed to medium and beat for 3 minutes, or until light and fluffy. Place the first cake layer on a plate or cake stand. Spread 1 cup of the frosting over the top. Top with the second cake layer and spread with 1 cup of the frosting. Top with the third cake layer and spread with the remaining frosting. Refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.
